Email Setup

Outlook Express 6.0

  • Double click on Outlook Express icon on desktop.
  • Select Tools then Accounts.
    • In the accounts window, select the Mail tab and click Add then Mail.
    • Type in your real name and select Next.
    • Type in your Email address ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
    • Select Next.
    • From the My incoming mail server is a drop down, select POP3.
    • In the Incoming Mail box enter the following, all in lowercase: 'pop.memlane.com'.
    • In the Outgoing Mail box enter the following, all in lowercase: 'smtp.memlane.com'.
    • Select Next.
    • In the Account Name enter your username.

      (Your username is everything before the @ symbol in your e-mail address. Example: If the e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it then the username is billy).

    • In the Password box, enter your password (Note: Entering your password here will allow use without entering the password each time you retrieve/send mail).
    • Select Next and click Finish.
  • You are now finished setting up Outlook Express.

Thunderbird

  • Start Thunderbird.
  • Click on Tools, then click on Account Settings.
  • A new window will pop up.
  • Click on Edit in the new window, and click on Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings.
  • Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the list.
  • Enter 'mail.memlane.com' in the Outgoing Server field, and make sure the Port field has 25 in it.
  • Click on Add Account towards the bottom of that window on the left hand side.
  • An Account Wizard window will pop up that says New Account Setup.
  • Select Email Account, as the type of account you would like to create, then click on Next.
  • Fill out the Your Name field with your name, and put in your memlane.com email address in the appropriate field. Click Next when you have filled in the fields.
  • Select POP as the type of incoming email server you are using. In the Incoming Server field, put in 'pop.memlane.com'. Click Next.
  • In the field Incoming User Name and Outgoing User Name, put in your username for Memory Lane. Your username is everything before the '@memlane.com' (example: just username, not ' This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it '). Click Next.
  • In the field Account Name, enter the name you wish to use.
  • You should now be at a Congratulations screen. Verify all of the information, and click Finish.
  • To activate the Junk Mail filter included in Thunderbird, select Tools. Select Junk Mail Controls, and then click on the Adaptive Filters tab and select Enable adaptive junk mail detection.
  • You are now ready to start using email with Thunderbird.
