ADSL Customer Self-Installation Guide

This guide is for Memory Lane customers who have chosen a self-install. A basic knowledge of computers and networking is assumed; as such, this guide is not a comprehensive tutorial, but rather a brief reference.

Email Configuration

Username _____________________ @ memlane.com or @ thehat.ca

Password _____________________

Incoming mail server: pop.memlane.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.memlane.com

Set your email client to use your local area network to send/receive email.

Network Configuration

We need to add the MAC address of your network card (NIC) to our DHCP database before you will be able to access our ADSL service. If you are using a router, we will instead need the WAN MAC address from your router. Please call in before your firm date with your MAC address so we can have your account properly configured for you to access our network.

Find your MAC address with Windows 95/98/ME

1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar, then click on the Run button.
2. In the text box that appears, type ' winipcfg '. Next, select your network card from the drop-down menu.
3. The "IP Address" field shows the IP address for the default network adapter.
4. The "Adapter Address" field shows the MAC address for this adapter.

Find your MAC address with Windows NT/2000/XP

1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar, then click on the Run button.
2. Type ' cmd ' in the text box that appears. A command prompt window launches on the desktop.
3. In this command window, type ' ipconfig /all '. Details are shown for each of the computer's network adapters
4. The IP Address field states the current IP address for that network adapter.
5. The Physical Address field states the MAC address for that adapter.

Find your Router’s WAN MAC address

Please consult the owner’s manual for your model of router for information on how to login to your router and obtain the WAN MAC address. This information is most commonly listed on a "Status" page.

Configure the TCP/IP protocol bound to your NIC to obtain IP and DNS address information automatically. If you are using a router, please login to your router and configure it to obtain this information automatically as well. Note: This is the default configuration for most routers.

Lastly, configure your Internet browser to use your local area network to access the internet. This step is especially important if you have previously been configured for dial-up.

Dial-Up Configuration

Memory Lane ADSL customers receive a complementary 30 hours of dial-up access per month. If you would like to use this feature, please let us know. Your username and password will be identical to your email; your access number is 526-6488.
