ADSL Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience problems, please complete the following 3 steps before calling Memory Lane Technical Support.

Step 1 > Before you call

1.) Reboot your computer
2.) Check the LED lights on your ADSL modem

    • No LED lights? Check the modem power cable.
    • Is the ‘ADSL Link’ a steady green? If not, check that your phone line is securely connected from your modem directly to the wall jack – no microfilter is required. If ‘ADSL Link’ is still not lit, please proceed to Step 3
    • Is the ‘Lan Link’, or ‘Ethernet Link’ a steady or blinking green? If this LED is not lit, ensure that the network cable is securely connected from your modem to your computer (or router).

3.) Turn your ADSL modem off, then on.
4.) If you are using a router, turn off the router, then turn it on. Reboot your computer.

Step 2 > Check your cable connections

Please use this checklist to ensure that your cables are firmly connected.

  • Power connection from the wall outlet (or power bar) to the modem
  • Network connection from the modem to the computer (or a router, if you have one)
  • If you a using a router, check the network connection from the router to the computer.
  • Telephone cable from the wall jack to the modem (This must NOT go through a microfilter)
  • Ensure that your “on/off” switch on the modem is in the “on” position. (Not all modems have an “on/off” switch)
Step 3 > Check your microfilters

It is very important that the microfilters included in your ADSL install kit are connected correctly. Each device that accesses the phone line in your home (telephone, fax machine, answering machine, satellite system, etc) must have a microfilter placed between it and the wall jack. The ADSL modem must not have a microfilter placed on it’s line; this will cause the modem to not work properly.

Please refer to this diagram for an overall view of how to connect the microfilters in your home.
