HELP/FAQ's
Uploading your web site to our server
Question: I have HTML documents ready to put
on the Web. How do I get them from my computer into the Memory Lane Web
Server?
You must have an account and received
a reply stating that you have had space set aside for you before you can
upload any files.
Once your web space has been set-up, you will be
provided with a username and password. In order to get files from your
computer into your space on our web server, you will need to set-up an
ftp client.
This is the process to upload files into the members.memlane.com server
using Prishtina's
free ftp program:
- Open the ftp client. Go up to File> Server address book.
- Type in the name of your site.
- In the Hostname/Address section, type in, members.memlane.com. Port
= 21.
- For Logon Type, untick the "Anonymous" box. Tick the "Normal"
box and input the username and password you were given when your web
space was set-up.
- Click the "Connect" button.
- You are now connected to your directory on our web server. On the
right of the ftp window is your directory on the server. On the left
side of the ftp program are the files in your computer.
- Navigate to the folder in your computer that contains your web
site.
- In order to get your web site into the directory on our server,
drag your files from the left side window onto the right side window.
- Once you have moved your files, disconnect from the server by clicking
the applicable connect button at the top of the ftp screen.
Note: for the main page (first page
you want people to see) to load automatically when your Personal home
page directory is accessed, it must be named index.html,
not index.htm.
