1998 CANADA SENIOR GAMES

Words from the Mayor and Premier

Mayor Ted J. Grimm

"Medicine Hat is proud to host the 1998 Canadian Seniors Games August 19th - 22nd."

"Medicine Hat boasts many achievements -- host to the 1983 World Junior Curling Championships, the 1992 Alberta Seniors Games, 1995 Alberta Provincial Scott Tournament of Hearts, Canadian Colleges Athletic Association 1995 National Soccer Championships, 1991 and 1997 Canadian Little League Championships as well as many other provincial, national, and international conventions. We have many enthusiastic and energetic volunteers who give the best personal service to visitors to our city."

As one of the sunniest cities is Canada, Medicine Hat has no shortage of sun or attractions. I invite you to enjoy our many attractions and excellent facilities which complement the friendly atmosphere in hosting community events. The Saamis Teepee is a twenty-story high steel teepee erected as a tribute to the native people of North America. It marks the location of the Saamis Archeological site which was a native buffalo camp and meat-processing centre, dating from the late pre-historic -- protohistoric period. Medalta Potteries, now a provincial and federal historic site, was the first western firm to ship manufactured goods to the eastern market. In the 1930's Medalta was the sole supplier of hotel china to the railways."

"River valley parks and 70 kilometres of trail system, historical buildings, water parks, golf courses, campground facilities and interesting people invite you to enjoy Medicine Hat."

"The 'Golden Days' of the 1992 Alberta Seniors Games were a tremendous success in Medicine Hat and we know that the 1998 Canadian Seniors Games will continue the legacy of success of seniors games in Medicine Hat."

"Medicine Hatters look forward to welcoming visitors to the 1998 Canadian Seniors Games in August, 1998."
